The music is loud and the house is packed with women giggling wine glasses while wearing sensible shoes. No high heels at this party. All of them are moms. Tired moms.
“I can’t remember the last time that I got to wear a dress”
A small group of moms nibbling on appetizers and sipping champagne nodded in agreement. All of the party guests were truly enjoying freedom from their families and an evening of female companionship. As they transform into girls just having fun, the volume of their chatter increases as well as the excitement and energy in the house.

Did you try the empanadas? OMG – this is soooo- goooooood!
I watch them from my Lipsology station, waiting to entertain them with lipstick print readings. Glances from the group at the lipsticks on my table bring another peel of laugher from the ladies.
“I’m not sure if I even remember how to put it on!’ ones jokes.
With a little coaxing the whole bunch begin to apply lipstick and smooch their personal kiss cards making a series of lip prints on the cardstock.
“Oooh, I love this color”
“How many kisses on the paper?”
“Am I doing this right? I feel really silly!”
“Ohhh- Wow! Look at mine!”
They are shocked at how their lip prints appear on the paper and giggle about the size and how open or closed their mouth was when making the prints.
As a certified Lipsologist (yup, I read lipstick prints) their kiss prints speak volumes about how they are feeling, their energy levels, where they are focusing their attention and even how they are predicting their future.
Each lean in and listen in to what I have to say about their prints. It amuses them how their kisses give them away revealing current situations. They laugh and talk and most importantly begin to relax. I can hear them share the secrets of their lip prints with their friends.
And I think, Cyndi Lauper is right. Girls just want to have fun. My calendar also reflects this. It is full of parties both in person and virtually for groups of women who long to hang out and have a good time with female friends. All of them say the same thing; We need this!
May is the month of Mother’s Day. But I think that moms need more than just one day. They need regular evenings or weekends off to celebrate with others or to have for their own.
